CAPTURING IMAGES

Most of the historic and archival images offered by DartmouthImages.com are sourced from the files, archives and photographic records at the Baker-Berry Library at Dartmouth College, through the Rauner Special Collections Library

Contemporary images are sourced primarily from the work of the Dartmouth College Photographer, Joseph Mehling ’69, through the Rauner Library.  In addition, other contemporary images come from work created by students, alumni and professional artists, each of whom is credited on individual images.

Images are selected by a graphic editor who distinguishes between a great news picture or snapshot and an image that will live on your walls for years to come.

One of the advantages of capturing images digitally is that they can be reproduced in a variety of sizes as long as they are consistent with the relative dimensions and the visual quality of the original.  As a result, not all images are available in all sizes—they are only available in sizes that maintain our quality standards.

Whether the original work is in the form of an etching, woodblock, lithograph, watercolor, oil painting, photograph or other artistic medium, the images are converted to a digital format photographically or by scanning.  High-resolution digital image files are the result of this process. 

What you see on our website or from a printout from the website is at a lower resolution than the resolution required to produce the quality reproduction we use to fill your image order.  We fully stand behind the quality reproduction that you purchase from DartmouthImages.com (See Guarantee)
