Choosing a frame and/or mat color can be as simple as selecting an image to purchase, but the decision is quite personal. Generally, it is best to select framing colors after giving consideration to the colors of your image. Choose colors that do not compete with the colors in the image. A dark color usually will make your image stand out or become more luminescent. A light color tends to soften the image to allow the colors to remain truer to their original look. While somewhat less important, you may wish to give some consideration to the background on which your framed image will appear.
DartmouthImages.com helps you make the decision about which combination of frame and mat colors works best for your image:
In Steps 4 and 5 you will see a selection of frames in metal and wood with various finishes and colors. You will also see five options for mat selection, including framing with no mat.
Click on the options that seem best for the image you selected and you can see a representation of how the final framing will appear. If you want to see a different combination, you can do so by clicking on another combination. You can view an unlimited number of combinations before you make a selection.
