All of the images offered by DartmouthImages.com are sourced from the files, archives and photographic records at Dartmouth College. Images are selected by a graphic editor and then scanned or photographed for conversion into a digital format.
Digital images are sent to one of two specialized printers--one uses LightJet technology
and the other utilizes a high-performance Roland Press. Based on the content of a specific
image, our graphic editor determines which process will provide you with the highest quality
image. Each image is then individually printed, after your order is received, so you will be able to enjoy a
high-resolution, sharply defined picture with the best color fidelity. Each printer uses a
heavy weight paper that is rated with a life span exceeding fifty years for archival purposes. Lightjet
printing is a photographic process so there are no inks involved; however, if your image is printed
on a Roland it will be printed with specially formulated, long lasting pigmented inks that
will not run or fade. Quality is our objective and every element of the process is geared
to provide you with superior results.
It is important to note that the reproduced image and its color fidelity are matched to the
original archived work. So, the final product may be different than the image that appears on your
computer screen since each computer and each browser reads digitized images slightly
differently.
