OUR DESIGNER PICKS DartmouthImages.com offers you a variety of historical and contemporary images in a variety of sizes, with a selection of mats, glazing and frames. We are pleased to offer you such a wide variety of choices; however, not every image comes in every size or with the same selections for matting and framing. We have consulted with artists, interior designers and framers to tailor options to the image being offered. When you first click on an image as a possible purchase, you will see it in a recommended size, with our selections for a mat and frame. This combination of features is the one our design team thinks shows off the selected image best. The great advantage of DartmouthImages.com is that you get to check out your pick compared with that of the pros. Change the size, eliminate framing, change the color of the mat—make any and all changes to see how the image shows best to your eye. If you agree with our design team—fine! If you see a better combination, then DartmouthImages has worked perfectly for you. First, a word about sizing. DartmouthImages.com offers images in four sizes: 9x12, 11x17, 16x20 and 18x24. We have selected these sizes because one will suit almost any display area: an intimate nook, a wall with other memorabilia or a high-ceilinged second home. However, not every size is appropriate for every image—a Winter Carnival poster will not translate well into the smallest sizes and a reproduction of a Currier print of Dartmouth Row may fall apart visually in the largest size. So, DartmouthImages.com offers reproductions only in sizes we feel are appropriate for each individual image. All images are reproduced according to the length of the longest dimension of a selected image in relationship to the shortest dimension of the selected image (called the “aspect”). If the shortest dimension of the selected image is the same as the longest dimension, the image will print as a square (eg. 11x11 on an 11x17 sheet of paper). If the shortest image is half of the length of the longest dimension, the image will print as a rectangle (eg. 8x16 on an 11x17 sheet of paper). In other words, DartmouthImages will reproduce the artwork in the aspect (relationship between the longest and shortest dimension) existing in the original artwork. When your image is matted and framed, the dimension of the finished product will vary with the image size you have selected. The finished framed and matted dimension will be approximately as follows:APPROXIMATE OUTSIDE DIMENSIONS FOR FRAMED, WITH MAT PRODUCTS
You may choose to have your image framed without a mat. An un-matted, but framed image is often an attractive solution for some larger print sizes. If you choose this option, the finished size will generally be as follows: APPROXIMATE OUTSIDE DIMENSIONS FOR FRAMED, WITH NO MAT PRODUCTS
Choosing a frame and/or mat color can be as simple as selecting an image to purchase, but the decision is quite personal. Generally, it is best to select framing colors after giving consideration to the colors of your image. Choose colors that do not compete with the colors in the image. A dark color usually will make your image stand out or become more luminescent. A light color tends to soften the image to allow the image colors to remain true to their original look. While somewhat less important, you may wish to give some consideration to the background on which your framed image will appear. Our design team has pre-selected its best recommendation for the size, mat and frame option for each image we offer. But the ultimate choice is yours. You may look at and experiment with an unlimited number of combinations until you are satisfied you have the combination that best suits your needs and taste.
