GLAZING OPTIONS

Glazing refers to the protective covering and process that shield your artwork  from the common elements, such as dust, dirt and handling.  All DartmouthImages.com work that is framed will include free, protective glazing.

The most traditional glazing selection involves glass—clear, non-glare or ultra-violet protection glass.  We recommend glass for framing your DartmouthImages purchase when the size or format allows.  Glass is slightly more durable than other glazing options.  DartmouthImages.com will install glass on all 9x12 pieces and on framed-only larger pieces that perform the required functions at a lower cost for installation and shipping.

If you choose to frame and mat your purchase in larger sizes, the glazing product will be a protective, clear acrylic.  Depending on where you will place the finished art, you may wish to have a higher level of protection and such protections are available.

Protection from Ultra Violet Rays: 

Clear glass or acrylic filters out approximately 45% of the ultra violet rays that might fade fine art.  The giclee printing process used for our reproductions should last for years under normal conditions.  If your image will be exposed to direct sunlight for much of the day, you might consider an upgrade.  UV-Protected glass and acrylic will filter out close to 98% of these harmful rays. 

Protection from visual distortion:

Whether your art is lit with natural light or artificial light it might have some viewing distortion because of glare.  Reflection control products have an etched matte-like finish that scatters light to minimize unwanted glare and distortion.  While these non-glare products do not block 98% of UV rays, they generally block 66%, a substantial increase of added protection over clear products.
