MAT SELECTION

DartmouthImages.com provides you with the option to set off your image with an archival mat.  Including a mat ensures that your image remains flat with no ripples, waves or imperfections. The mat itself will cover approximately 3/16th of an inch of your selected image, on all sides of the image.  Traditionally the mat will be twice the width of the frame selected for an image.  Consequently all DartmouthImages mats will be approximately 2.5 inches wide all around the image itself, although there will be some variation by size.

All of the wood fiber mats we use at DartmouthImages.com are of archival quality, manufactured by Bainbridge-Nielsen. They are acid-free and lignin-free so that your selected image will enjoy a long life without fear of discoloration or deterioration.

You have a choice of four mat colors to complement the image you select.  Generally, it is best to select a mat color that will contrast with the predominant color at the outside of the image you are matting—a light color mat next to the dark edge of the image and the darker edge of the frame.
