GICLEE DIGITAL PRINTING The classic definition of the printing process used by DartmouthImages.com is generally covered by Wikipedia: Giclée (pronounced /ʒiːˈkleɪ/ "zhee-clay" or /dʒiːˈkleɪ, from French [ʒiˈkle]) is a neologism for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray".[1] It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne,[2] a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The name has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints. Digital images created for DartmouthImages.com are maintained in a database by our specialized printer/framer. Our vendor has been printing digital images for over seven years and has a matting and framing facility that has been in operation over fifteen years. Presently the images for DartmouthImages.com clients are printed with a Large Format Epson machine. Each image is individually printed, after your order is received, so you will be able to enjoy a high-resolution, sharply defined picture with the best color fidelity. Our images are all printed on Hot Press Natural Art Papers. This paper is used for Fine Art printing and has 100% cotton rag content. You are guaranteed that your image will be on acid-free, ph Buffered, smooth matte finish paper. The paper is 16mil with 98% opacity at 90 ISO brightness. All fancy specifications to explain a quality paper that is rated to have a life span exceeding fifty years for archival purposes. All reproduction prints utilize specially formulated, long lasting pigmented inks that will not run or fade. Quality is our objective and every element of the process is geared to provide you with superior results. It is important to note that the reproduced image and its color fidelity are matched to the original archived work. The quality measure is the original artwork. The final print you receive may be different than the image appearing on your computer screen since each computer and each browser reads digitized images and colors slightly differently. |
